In the monks of Llanthony primarily left the priory and went to the Bishop of Hereford as he beseeched them to do. He took them in but was not without his own troubles at the time. It was initially hoped that the troubles would end soon and they would be able to return to Llanthony Prima but as time went on and the situation did not. Llanthony Priory was one of the earliest houses of Augustinian canons to be founded in Britain, and is one of only a handful in Wales. It is chiefly famous today for its wild and beautiful setting, far up the Vale of Ewyas in the Black Mountains.

This small country inn, often known as the "Abbey Hotel", sits within and is actually part of the original 12th century Augustinian priory. Real ales are served in the vaulted under croft bar, thought once to have been the prior's cellar, while excellent homemade meals are served in the dining room, with its vaulted ceiling and open log fire.
